UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov gave an update of his father’s situation

In my personal case, I’ve had more than 20 people sick from my family,’ Nurmagomedov said, according to ESPN’s translation.

‘More than 20 people were lying in the ICUs. And many of them are no longer among us.

‘Many acquaintances have died, many parents of my relatives. Everybody is having a hard time dealing with it.

‘There is a lot written on the internet about my father. My father, right now, is located in a hospital.

Abdulmanap (left) experienced complications from a previous condition and Covid-19

‘He is in critical condition as a result of this virus. It impacted his heart because last year he had a surgery there, and right now, they did another surgery.

‘He is in a very difficult situation, very difficult. We are asking Allah that he returns him to us.’

Nurmagomedov is a devout Muslim who lives in the Russian Republic of Dagestan and is currently observing Ramadan.

Khabib will fight Justing Gaethje in a title defence later in the year, according to Dana White

Undefeated at 28-0, Nurmagomedov was supposed to fight Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18 but was unable to leave his native Russia to travel to the United States for the event due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The event was later postponed to May 9, and Ferguson lost to Justin Gaethje in Jacksonville, Florida, for the interim lightweight title.

UFC president Dana White has since said Nurmagomedov and Gaethje will fight in a unification bout later this year.
