VfB Stuttgart tied the first German Bundesliga relegation playoff game against Union Berlin. This game ended with a draw 2:2. Now the Stuttgarters will have to fight very hard in the second game of this series to avoid relegation to the 2. German Bundesliga.

Both teams entered the pitch with a lot of concentration and focused especially on the defence. Players of VfB and Union Berlin know very well for what they are playing for. For VfB, relegation to the lower Bundesliga league would be very painful. And Union was very close to win direct promotion to the top league and now wants to take its chance and reach its success through the playoff round.

With such a pressure sitting deep in mind, it’s not easy to play and to take the risk which is neccessary in football on such high level. But both teams tried to dominate. In the 1st half, both goals were shot just before the end of the first 45 minutes. VfB Stuttgart opened the scoring in this game in 41st minute when Christian Gentner scored. But Unionists from Berlin managed to tie the game just 2 minutes later with a goal of Abdullahi.

The beginning of the 2nd half was better for the hosts. In the 51st minute, experienced striker Mario Gomez restored the lead for VfB and the crowd on Mercedes Arena stadium in Stuttgart gone crazy. But again, Union Berlin managed to strike back and return to the right track. In 68th minute, Friedrich scored again for Union and established the final score of this match.

This draw leads straight to the conclusion that the revenge game in Berlin will be very hard for VfB Stuttgart. Why? Because the Stuttgarters allowed Union Berlin to score 2 goals on their own stadium. Now, VfB must either win or score a 3:3 draw in Berlin. Any other result will give Union a promotion to the top Bunesliga and push VfB Stuttgart to 2.
