Honda will be at least with Ferrari and Mercedes level
Adrian Newey says Honda is “the breath of fresh air” for Red Bull and is confident that their engines will soon be at least at Ferrari and Mercedes level.
At the beginning of 2019, Red Bull moved to Honda’s engines after 12 years of collaboration with Renault, during which they won 4 driver and constructor titles in the period from 2010 to 2013.
But Renault’s inability to approach Mercedes and Ferrari during the hybrid era has prompted Red Bull to look for new solutions, and at the beginning of 2018, their junior team secured Honda’s engines and create partnerships with the Japanese themselves this year.
The collaboration with Renault for the past two years, Newey has called a “broken marriage”, and explained that Honda had an influence on the Milton Keynes team. He believes that the Japanese can soon be at the Ferrari and Mercedes level.
“Honda is a breath of fresh air. It’s great to work with them, very easy, they are very well organized, “
“The whole team is motivated to cooperate with them. Always deliver what they promise, we have no complaints at all. ”
“They are still not at the Mercedes and Ferrari level, but I’m confident they will soon be there. They trust in. ”
“As for the chassis, I will be brutally honest-not as good as we want. We have to do our job. We have a nice relationship with Honda and we trust each other, we have to keep working and we should not start throwing mud to each other. ”
