Has Hamilton broken the corona protocol? ‘There should be no penalty on this’

After the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo enjoyed the ‘shoey’ Ricciardo usually does after a podium finish. Race Director Michael Masi wonders if this is allowed according to corona protocol.

At the Nurburgring, Ricciardo had forgotten for a moment, but certainly not after the race at Imola: the well-known ‘shoey’ the Australian often shares with his colleagues on the podium. This time Ricciardo got race winner Hamilton to take a sip out of his shoe as well.

Breaking corona rules

Despite the fact that Hamilton and Ricciardo did not drink from the same shoe, it is not certain that this is allowed under the corona protocol of Formula 1. “I never really thought about that. But there should be no penalty”, Masi is quoted by Motorsport-Total.com.

According to Masi, Formula 1 has slowly become less and less strict with the corona rules in recent months than it was at the beginning of the season.
