Hamilton’s new attitude to life becomes part of contract negotiations

Now that most people will be forced to sit at home again in the coming weeks, they can empathize a bit with the lives of F1 drivers over the past year. Because of the bubble that their teams are holding on to, they have been living in seclusion for more than half a year now. This has given Lewis Hamilton a whole new perspective on life.

Before the corona crisis, Hamilton was known as a busy man. In addition to his regular work as a driver for Mercedes, he had all kinds of secondary activities in the fashion and music industry, among others. Now that all this is no longer possible, the world champion realises that it was perhaps a bit too much of a good thing.

Hamilton does not want to go back to his ‘old normal

“I think it has been a year of learning with the pandemic,” he says to Motorsport-Total.com. “I’ve had a lot of time for myself. It’s not always the best, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect. In the past, life just went too fast. You jump from one event to the next.”

When the pandemic is over, Hamilton is going to do things differently. “I don’t want to go back to what it was like before. That’s going to be part of the discussion when I sign the contract.” Negotiations that Mercedes and Hamilton have postponed until after this season.
