Raikkonen: Mick Schumacher “a copy of his father in many ways”
Kimi Raikkonen has paid Formula 2 driver Mick Schumacher the ultimate compliment by describing him as “a copy of his father in many ways”.
Schumacher will make his debut in an official F1 session with Alfa Romeo in first practice for the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring driving alongside father Michael’s former championship rival Raikkonen.
Although confessing not to know the younger Schumacher “that well”, the Finn has seen enough of the F2 championship leader to recognise the similarities with his dad.
“We have spoken some years back already and he’s a great guy,” said Raikkonen on the 21-year-old.
“He’s a copy of his father in many ways and it’s great to see him. I think it’s nice that he’s in the car tomorrow.”
Across the season the futures of both Schumacher and Raikkonen have been the topic of much speculation, with rumours suggesting an announcement the two will pair up at Alfa Romeo for 2021 is imminent.
Raikkonen added: “It’s only practice one and hopefully the weather will be okay so we get normal running.
“If it’s miserable like today it’s not going to be that much fun but I think it’s great to see him doing his first FP1, and especially with us.”
