McLaren unveils tweaked livery ahead of season-opener
McLaren has unveiled a tweaked livery for its MCL35, the car it will use throughout the 2020 Formula 1 season, which finally gets underway this weekend in Austria.
McLaren’s primarily orange and blue livery will now feature a rainbow pattern on the sidepods, accompanying the rainbow on the halo, which is part of F1’s new #WeRaceAsOne initiative, aimed at increasing awareness of equality and diversity.
All ten teams will run rainbow decals on their cars as part of the initiative, though McLaren has gone a step further in adding this to their overall livery design in their own style.
Earlier this week Mercedes revealed a new livery for the 2020 season which replaces its traditional silver colour for black. This was done as part of the Black Lives Matter movement to end racism, with those words also featuring on the W11.
McLaren has followed suit and will run ‘End Racism’ on its car too.
“Unity. Solidarity. Hope,” McLaren wrote on Twitter alongside images of its MCL35. “Introducing our new-look MCL35 livery, which incorporates the #WeRaceAsOne rainbow and will proudly carry the ‘End Racism’ message.”
The delayed 2020 season will finally get underway this weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, with another race at the same venue the following weekend, before heading to Hungary for round three.
McLaren and Williams aren’t the only teams to tweak their liveries. Williams unveiled a brand new livery after it split with title partner RoKIT several weeks ago.
