Wolff not happy with FIA decision: “Always warned of these consequences”

After the Italian Grand Prix, Mercedes explained why they are not happy with the ban on qualifying modes. On Sundays, it is no longer possible to use different engine modes, only the overtaking button may be used. This will provide additional electrical power of up to 163 HP.

According to Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, this has made it more difficult to overtake slower competitors.

“The new rule is not good for the race. It has been more fun in the past to manage the engine and get the overtaking boost,” Hamilton said. For example, the British driver was trapped behind Alexander Albon for four laps despite the RB16 was a lot slower.

The six-time world champion, supported by team boss Toto Wolff, believes he’s now proved right. “We have always warned of these consequences.”

Mercedes doesn’t lie awake from losing

Mercedes failed to grab the seventh win of the season at Monza, but Pierre Gasly was awarded his first-ever F1 victory. “Racing needs days like this. It’s good to see new faces on the podium. The winner drove very strong and the team made the right decisions. They deserve it.”
